Nattier Ceramics is an Australian studio based in Melbourne, designing and crafting original handmade porcelain tableware and lighting. Purpose, material and method provide the foundation of all works, with the delicate yet strong properties of the material and the intricacy of the making process evident in every piece.
NATALIE RICH, FOUNDER AND MAKER
A designer who makes. A maker who designs.
An Industrial Designer by training, Natalie spent a decade in commercial design before turning to ceramics. After several years learning across different settings with some of the most renowned ceramic artists and schools, she founded Nattier Ceramics in 2023. Her years of design practice give the work a considered precision, while her focus on traditional methods and the visible hand of the maker points toward an ever more expressive future.
MINDFUL APPROACH
Nattier cares, every decision begins and ends with the earth in mind.
Ceramic is born from the earth and once fired, returns to a state of near permanence. Stone. That permanence is revered and informs every design decision. Considered design is the first step in reducing waste. Limoges porcelain is sourced in dry powdered form, reducing freight weight by 45%. Waste clay is reincorporated, retired moulds are composted, and all packaging is recyclable and compostable where possible. Most notably, all pieces are once-fired rather than the conventional twice, halving kiln energy use. Nattier Ceramics is committed to learning and improving alongside evolving best practice.
